Our full-line dairy department features a vast array of all the products
you depend on. In all the major dairy categories—milk, eggs, cheese,
yogurt, butter and cream—we provide as much selection as possible.
This is to say you just might be overwhelmed by all choices you in fact
have. Different brands and varieties abound, as do sizes and styles. And
whenever possible we give you the option between conventional major brands
and organic, natural, or artisan versions of the same product. What’s
more, in many cases we provide alternatives you might not have known even
existed.
In the yogurt section of our dairy you’ll find an incredible assortment
of cultured dairy products. Well known brands Dannon and Yoplait are joined
by Stonyfield, Continental, Berkeley Farms, Brown Cow and Wallaby. Among
these brands you can choose between regular or light, cream-at-the-top
and cream-at-the-bottom, not to mention more flavors than we can list
here. We carry Redwood Hill Farm’s yogurt made from goat milk as
well as Nancy’s and Whole Soy which are both made with soy milk
and are entirely dairy free. Kozyshack’s rice pudding and tapioca
are among the eclectic treats that fill out the remainder of the yogurt
section. Most of the yogurt we carry is packaged in small 6 to 8 oz. containers.
These are perfect for a lunch on-the-go or a healthy and nutritious snack
anytime. In addition, we carry a wide variety in larger sizes (from 32
oz. to 64 oz.) which are great when using yogurt as a baking ingredient.

No matter what type of milk you’re looking for we are sure to have
one that will satisfy your thirst. We carry Berkeley Farms, Clover, Horizon,
Straus and Organic Valley. In each case we have whole, reduced fat (2%),
low-fat (1%), and non-fat versions available. Berkeley Farms and Clover
are available in both gallon and half-gallon sizes. Clover, Horizon, Straus
and of course Organic Valley are all produced organically. Straus is especially
distinctive as it comes in a genuine old-fashion glass bottle. It not
only looks great, but is the most environmentally friendly packaging available.
There is a one dollar deposit when you purchase Straus milk which is subsequently
refunded when you return the bottle to the store. We also carry Lactaid’s
full line and non-dairy milk from Soy Dream, Wildwood, West Soy and Silk.
In addition to all of this, we carry an assortment of milk in smaller
sizes such as Berkeley Farm’s “Chug” line.
The egg selection here at Berkeley
Bowl is another area combining variety and value with the highest quality
products possible. This section in particular represents our penchant
for products that embrace environmentally responsible and ecologically
sound practices. We feature eggs from Petaluma Farms, Vege-Pro, Gold Circle
Farms, B & B Farms, Uncle Eddies, Judy’s Farm Fresh, Rock Island,
and Happy Hens. These are all farms yielding eggs exclusively from vegetarian-fed,
cage-free hens without hormones, antibiotics or other unknown stimulants.
Many of these farms are also local to the Bay Area, residing primarily
in either Petaluma or Sonoma County. In which case these are not only
the best eggs available but the freshest too! Among the many varieties
we carry we have brown eggs, white eggs, large eggs and eggs that are
entirely organic. We have, in addition, some rather unusual fare such
as fertile eggs, quail eggs, and when we are able to find them, duck eggs.
We offer considerable selections of all other requisite dairy products
such as butter, cream and cheese as well as a range of miscellaneous products.
You’ll find refrigerated juices—everything from Minute Maid
and Tropicana to Naked Juice and Apple-A-Day which is produced locally
in Sebastopol. You’ll also find a wide selection of Mediterranean
style dips and spreads such as hummus and babaganoush. Opposite the eggs
we have a hodgepodge of refrigerated items including pickles, polenta,
salad dressing, mustard and horseradish. Bacon and a wide variety of packaged
sausages are also located here. One note: The cheese located in our dairy
represents only a small portion of our overall selection. In the dairy
we carry some pre-packaged cheese as well as cream cheese and various
imported cheese (cotija casero, gjetost, boursin, double Devon cream,
Rondele, mascarpone—just to name a few). Here we also have a selection
of dairy-free and lactose-free cheese alternatives. A wider selection,
however, of imported, fresh-cut, and deli-style cheese can be found on
our “Cheese Island,” directly across from our deli.
