Assistant Grocery Buyer/Manager

Location: 920 Heinz Ave and 2020 Oregon Street

Purpose:  To help oversee the selection, pricing, development and promotion of department products across both stores. (Product may be: HABA, grocery, bulk, cheese, dairy, meat, beer and wine, floral, produce, or seafood).   

Status:  Reports to Buyer/ Manager

Responsibilities: 

1.Assist in Purchasing

  1. Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply including direct buying.

  2. Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, promotions, and delivery.

  3. Purchase for special deals and promotions. Ensure adequate supply of promoted product.

  4. Set pricing for the department to meet margin goals

  5. Oversee product ordering process and when beneficial, place orders to achieve higher margins and/or alter promotional pricing. Order products to meet customer demand or delegate as needed.

  6. Determine which categories or products to add, delete, increase, or decrease. Define core sets within categories.

  7. Review invoice and ensure paperwork is being completed properly.

  8. Achieve margin, sales and inventory turn goals as set by the Buyer Manager and General Manager.

2.Assist in Merchandising

  1. Provide product information for promotions and customer inquiries.

  2. Develop point of purchase information with POS.

  3. Coordinate periodic price surveys of identified competitors using industry reports and on-site visits.

  4. Oversee, conduct, and participate in inventories. Maintain shrinkage and inventory records.

  5. Develop merchandising plan and present information to appropriate store personnel for implementation.

  6. Provide product information and training to department personnel.

  7. Work with department supervisors to maximize sales and promotions during holiday season and special events.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in purchasing and merchandising retail natural products.

  • Ability to project friendly, outgoing personality and ability to work as a positive team member

  • Well- Organized, with special attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of products and trends in the industry.

  • Ability to read and analyze financial statements.

  • Ability to handle multiple demands and follow thought on commitments

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of constituents.

  • Experience serving the public.

  • Enthusiasm and motivation for learning and updating product knowledge.

  • Demonstrates leadership skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without an accommodation.

  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.

  • Basic Math and computer skills

  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English

 

Pay: From $64,500.00 per year
