ASSISTANT GROCERY MANAGER/BUYER

Location: 920 Heinz Ave and 2020 Oregon Street

Purpose:  To help oversee the selection, pricing, development, and promotion of grocery products across both stores.   

Status:  Reports to Grocery Manager/ Buyer

Responsibilities: 

1. Assist in Purchasing

  • Evaluate suppliers and investigate new sources of supply, to include direct buying.

  • Negotiate with suppliers for favorable prices, terms, quality, promotions, and delivery.

  • Purchase for special deals and promotions. Ensure adequate supply of promoted products.

  • Set pricing for the department to meet margin goals.

  • Oversee product ordering process and when beneficial place orders to achieve higher margins and/or alter promotional pricing. Order products to meet customer demand or delegate as needed.

  • Determine which categories or products to add, delete, increase, or decrease.

  • Review invoices and ensure paperwork is being completed properly.

  • Achieve margin, sales and inventory turn goals as set by the Manager/ Buyer and General Manager.

2. Assist in Merchandising

  • Provide product information for promotions and customer inquiries.

  • Develop point of purchase information with POS department.

  • Coordinate periodic price surveys of identified competitors using industry reports and on-site visits.

  • Oversee, conduct, and participate in inventories. Maintain shrinkage and inventory records.

  • Develop merchandising plan and present information to appropriate store personnel for implementation.

  • Provide product information to department personnel.

  • Work with department supervisors to maximize sales and promotions during holiday seasons and special events.

3. Managerial Duties

  • Write and approve schedules.

  • Keep track of time and attendance and approve timecards.

  • Write and distribute disciplinary action as needed and perform corrective action.

  • Write and distribute performance evaluations.

  • Interview, hire, and train incoming employees for the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in purchasing and merchandising.

  • Ability to project a friendly, and outgoing personality and work as a positive team member.

  • Well- Organized, with special attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of products and trends in the industry.

  • Ability to read and analyze financial statements.

  • Ability to handle multiple demands and follow through on commitments.

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a variety of constituents.

  • Enthusiasm and motivation for learning and updating product knowledge.

  • Demonstrates leadership skills.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

  • Customer Service Experience.

  • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.

  • Basic Math and computer skills.

  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English.

  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.

 

Pay: From $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
