PRODUCE SUPERVISOR

Full Time

Location: 2020 Oregon St

Purpose:  To assist the Produce Department Manager in overseeing all produce related operations, including selecting and merchandising product, supervision of staff and achieving company objectives for sales, margin, and labor and customer service.

Status:  Reports to Produce Department Manager. Supervise Produce Staff in absence of Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with Produce Manager, set prepping and stocking priorities for department staff.

  • Maintain produce displays, prep and storage areas in clean, orderly condition, meeting all health and safety regulations.

    • Ensure that displays are replenished, rotated and culled frequently.

  • Ensure accurate price and grower information on department signs (including COOL compliance).

  • Trim, wash, and package produce, and set standards for department staff.

  • Along with Produce Manager, responsible for modeling and maintaining a high level of customers service where customers are the number one department priority.

    • Assist customers with product questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation and help train department staff to do so.

  • As directed by Produce Manager or in his/her absence:

    • Direct and participate in all aspects of sales floor operations.

    • Provide accurate cost information for the Produce Coordinator in a timely manner.

    • Work with and direct Produce Receiver in receiving orders and following established procedures. Monitor quality of incoming produce and ask for credit as needed within allotted time frame.

    • Ensure accurate PLUs in our POS system and cashier lookup.

    • Conduct periodic price checks to ensure accuracy on the sales floor.

    • Fill holes in the department schedule.

  • Work with Produce Manager in providing on-the-job training.

  • Coordinate and direct daily communication between AM and PM crews. Model the highest levels of positive and constructive communication at all times.

  • Participate in and evaluating department staff. As needed, assist and support Produce Manager in taking disciplinary action as needed.

  • Perform other tasks assigned by Produce Manager.

  • Attend department meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Training: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

  • Knowledge/Skills:

    • Experience in retail produce.

    • Capable of working well independently and with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork and constant communication are essential.

    • Ability to successfully manage concurrent projects and meet deadlines.

    • Strong sense of urgency with the ability to prioritize.

    • Excellent communication skills.

    • Well organized, pays attention to detail.

  • Exceptional customer service skills. Experience serving the public preferred.

  • Basic math skills required.

  • Other:

    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Able to stand for two or more hours at a time.

    • Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.

    • Ability to maintain a fast, steady pace.​​

Pay range: $24.50 - $31.00 per hour
